Barbara Bauer Florance


A Lancer out of sight
Never out of mind


We regret to inform all of the Alumni and the class of 1962 that Barbara Bauer Florance died Monday, November 23, 2015 at Cayuga Medical Center, Ithaca, New York.

 

Born Sept. 2, 1944 in Toledo, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late Marga Lee Holtz and Lt. Col. Richard A. Bauer, USMC Ret/Dec.

 

During her childhood, she traveled with her family to numerous bases in the United States including California, Texas, Virginia and Hawaii. “Barb” was graduated from Lee High School in Springfield, Virginia in 1962 and Ohio State University in 1966 with a degree in education.

 

She taught fourth grade and other special programs at Dryden Elementary School for 30 years. Her hobbies included sewing, gardening, quilting, baking, crafting, and watching her grandchildren play sports.

 

In 2008 she collaborated as illustrator on two books for children, “Lester’s Special Gifts” and “Marla Tries Bling”. She was also active in Quilters Club, and the McLean Beautification Committee.

She is survived by her husband, James Florance; her three children, Douglas R. Butler, Scott D. Butler, Stacy B. Stauffeneker; and five grandchildren; Taylor Butler, Cody Butler, Jordan Stauffeneker, Colton Stauffeneker, and Emma Butler; two brothers Ric and Rod Bauer; and one niece and nephew as well as her former husband W. Ronald Butler.

 
Friends may call from 3 to 5pm Friday, Nov. 27th at Perkins Funeral Home, 55 West Main Street, Dryden, NY where a Memorial Service will follow at 5pm. A dinner for family and close friends will take place after the services, at the McLean Community Church. In lieu of flowers, please plant a bush or flower in remembrance of Barb.

She was a loyal fan of the Washington Redskins and FSU Marching Chiefs. She was always willing to help others.
She is survived by her husband Joe Blum of Winter Haven, daughter Pamela Rupp of Jacksonville FL, son Timothy Blum of Charlotte, NC, sister Jean Helmandollar of Stafford, VA, brother Richard Williams of Culpeper, VA, brother Paul Williams of Roanoke, VA, and companion Fred and Colby.
A visitation will be held on Friday, June 26 from 10 am - 11 am with services starting at 11 am in the chapel of Steele's Family Funeral Services, 207 Burns Lane, Winter Haven. In lieu of flowers, donations to Veterinary Healthcare Association, Winter Haven, FL.
