In Memoriam

Douglas Morgan Britt

A Lancer out of sight
Never out of mind

We regret to inform all of the Alumni and the class of 1977 that Douglas Morgan Britt died Friday, January 19, 2018.

Doug is survived by his mother Betty Mutchler Britt of Virginia Beach, daughter Kelsey A. Britt of Chesapeake, his three sisters, Deborah Harris (Gregory) of Virginia Beach, Patricia Holsinger (Gordon) of Arlington, and Sandra MacMurdy (Paul) of Florida, and many nephews and nieces. He is preceded in death by his loving father James R. Britt Sr. and beloved older brother James R. Britt II.

A native of Springfield, Virginia, Doug graduated from Robert E. Lee High School in 1977. Doug spent his career as a carpenter and was a longtime resident of Chesapeake. A natural athlete and sports enthusiast, he spent many years as his daughter's soccer coach and was her biggest fan. An animal lover, he never passed a dog on the street that he didn't stop to greet. Doug enjoyed spending time on the water and fishing, cooking, gardening, building furniture in his wood shop, listening to music (only the good stuff, like Zeppelin, Hendrix, and Rush), and playing the guitar.

A celebration of life gathering was be held by the family. Memorial donations may be made to the SPCA of Northeastern North Carolina. Doug's dearest companions, a lab named Tailer and a hound named Ralph, were both adopted from shelters.
