From the Washington Post:

Denise Amber Lowery, 32, a finance officer with local auto dealers, died Sept. 24 while attending her cousin's wedding at the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque. She had heart disease.

Ms. Lowery, a native of Alexandria, had a congenital heart condition. She had a mitral valve replacement at age 12 and had a pacemaker implanted when she was 16. She received a new pacemaker this year. Nonetheless, her mother said, "she was very determined to lead as normal a life as possible."

Ms. Lowery graduated from Lee High School in Springfield in 1991 and attended George Mason University and Northern Virginia Community College. She was a bartender while attending college.

She began her career in 1993 with the National Association of Retail Druggists in Alexandria. In 1994, she became a finance officer and accountant with Rosenthal Infiniti-Nissan-Mazda of Tysons Corner. In 2004, she joined Land Rover Alexandria as a finance officer, overseeing warranties and tag and title registration.

After living in Franconia for most of her life, Ms. Lowery moved to Ashburn in 2003. Her interests included drag racing and attending concerts by Jimmy Buffett.

Survivors include her mother, Brenda Sue Brittain of Fairfax County; her father and stepmother, Daniel Louis Lowery and Barbara Lowery, both of Stafford; her grandmother, Bertha Lee Mason of Fairfax; a stepbrother, Gratton Earl "E.J." Dent Jr. of Fairfax; and a stepsister, Brandy Saunders of Nokesville.
