Kaine Picks Commerce Secretary

Gov.-elect Timothy M. Kaine (D) announced yesterday that he has selected Patrick O. Gottschalk as his secretary of commerce and trade.

A partner at a Richmond law firm, Gottschalk, 52, serves as counsel to the Virginia Economic Developers Association. He will replace Secretary Michael J. Schewel, who is returning to private law practice.

Gottschalk also has served on the Board of Directors of the Richmond Chamber of Commerce and Henrico Business Council. He graduated from the University of Virginia School of Law in 1983. He served as a Navy officer after graduating from the U.S. Naval Academy in 1975.
