We are sorry to inform the Lee community that Mattie Ellen Wood Doney, class of
1968, died on Friday, March 6, 2009,
Born
in Virginia, she was the daughter of the late Robert Millard and
Katherine Elizabeth Hummer Wood.
Mattie
graduated from Robert E. Lee High School in Springfield, where she met
her future husband, Robert. She was a former resident of the city of
Fairfax, worked as an assistant bank manager, and was a member of
Springfield United Methodist Church. Mattie devoted her time to her
family, especially her grandchildren, as well as to her hobbies, which
included genealogy and gardening. She also enjoyed collecting antiques
and cat figurines.
Mattie
is survived by her husband of 39 years, Robert Doney Jr.; her son,
Robert Doney III and his wife, Stacy, of Elkton, Md.; her daughter,
Dawn Doney Young and her husband, Brian, of Stafford County; her
grandchildren, Katherine Young, Sarah Doney, Christopher Young and
Cora Doney; her sisters, Hannah Menay and Roberta Walker, both of
Caroline County; her sisters-in-law, Rita Bettis of Lawrenceville,
Ga., Ronda Doney of Springfield, Ruane Langton and her husband, John,
of Tracys Landing, Md., and Lisa Doney of Dallas, Texas; and numerous
nieces, nephews, friends and neighbors.
